Obituary

Brenda Kay Barnett Hopkins was born July 1, 1954 in Cuero, TX to Arthur and Patricia Barnett. Brenda is the third child of their twelve children. She attended Cuero High School. In 1978, Brenda gave her life to Jesus and was baptized in Jesus’ name and filled with the Holy Ghost at the Holy Ghost Temple of Christ. In 2008 she began serving God at No Air Deliverance under Pastor Lisa. She loved to praise God, testify and tell of his goodness. She loved to usher and she was a young people’s president and she would cook for the church every Sunday.

Brenda married Robert Hopkins Sr. and they had children who they loved and cherished, Lisa Barnett Gunels, Robert Hopkins Jr., Chris Hopkins Sr., Vera Hopkins, Johnal (Pondie) Hopkins, Val Hopkins, Ella Hopkins, and Ricky Hopkins, Sr.

Brenda was an avid worker. In her early years she worked at Circle K on Morgan, Nursing Rehab in Yoakum, Brentex Mills, and she was a great health care provider.

Brenda was known for her restaurant cooking skills by many in the community. Cooking was her passion. She was known for her famous Enchiladas and Brenda Burgers. During Turkey Fest people would come from near and far to taste some of her delicious food. Brenda was a strong and determined woman and with God on her side she could do anything.

She is survived by her daughters Lisa, Vera, Ella, and sons Robert, Chris, Johnal, Val, and Ricky. Best friend Robert Hopkins Sr., her brothers Val, and Abbie Barnett (Faye); sisters Viola Holman (Johnal), Dorothur O’Donnell, Mary Lewis (Earl), Patricia Ross, Lillian Jackson, Sabrina Campbell and Lataine Boston (Torrance); her 31 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and a godson Keith Lewis; as well as aunts, uncles, host of nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Arthur Leo Barnett Sr. and Patricia Barnett; and her brothers Gary and Arthur Jr.
