Obituary

Claire Almon Ford passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, June 25, 2020, at the age of 87. She was born November 12, 1932, in Gainesville, Texas, to Burney Francis Almon and Mary Lou Turner Almon.
Mrs. Ford earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas). Mrs. Ford was a dedicated teacher who inspired her students with her passion for learning, her love of great literature, and her interest in history, art, and culture. She held her students to high moral standards, and her compassion and diligence affected the future.

While teaching elementary school in Port Lavaca, she met Hilary Blanton Ford, a teacher of Industrial Arts, on a blind date set up by mutual friends. They fell in love, married, and had three children: David Blanton Ford, Marilyn Claire Ford, and Anne Almon Ford. Mrs. Ford was a devoted wife and a beloved mother who cherished her children, ensuring that they became well-educated, thoughtful adults committed to living godly lives and contributing to society.

Mrs. Ford dedicated her life to serving others selflessly and following the example of Jesus Christ. She was invariably a lady and a perfectionist who performed her duties meticulously.

Mrs. Ford is survived by her children, her brothers Harold Almon and Turner Almon, and her sister Lou Almon Morgan. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Douglas Almon and her sister Marilyn Almon Edgar.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Grace Memorial Chapel at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Victoria, Texas. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 2, 2020, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Memorial Chapel. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Ford was my middle school English teacher in the late 80s at Crain Middle School in Victoria. I don’t remember many teachers in my early 40s age but I do remember her. She inspired a love of reading and was always so nice and calm. I remember her really nice handwriting and how she referred to the trash as “File 13”. It’s the first time I had heard the trash referred to as that. I’m a teacher now in the Austin area and refer to it as that now too. May she Rest In Peace and her memories live on in all the students she touched. My condolences to Mrs. Ford’s family and friends.

My family and I send our condolences to David, Marilyn, and Anne for the loss of their mother. As for my family, we lost a wonderful friend.

I remember Mrs. Claire Ford was also a special comfort and friend to her own beloved Aunt Amy, who lived in a nearby nursing home toward her latter years in life. Claire shared many wonderful memories with her aunt. There were many days of hairdressing and chatting. What woman wouldn't love that? I'm sure Aunt Amy appreciated the special visits from her niece.
Mrs. Ford always took great care in caring for her children, even though they are grown.

Claire Ford was a great comfort to my family some years ago when my own aunt had health issues and was in the rehab/nursing unit. Mrs. Ford volunteered a couple of times to help sit with my Aunt Connie throughout the night to help alleviate my aunt's anxiety (and lack of sleep) just to help my brother have a respite from being the primary caregiver. On other occasions, Claire would dropped by the rehab during the day just to visit with my Aunt and wheel her out to the gardens for some company. I cannot express to you how grateful our family was to Claire Ford, for her compassion, her care, and her time.

I also recall our special trip one year to the Texas Renaissance Festival with you driving your daughters, Marilyn and Anne, and my college roommate Carlyn and myself as passengers. It was a quite a memorable trip so many years ago, yet it was such a vivid memory in my head that it seems like it was yesterday. I want to thank you, Mrs. Ford, for those memories.

I'm sorry that I just found the obituary and it doesn't give us time to order flowers or plan to attend the funeral. I'm attaching a very special picture that I took of Mr and Mrs Ford with their daughter, Marilyn. This is one of my favorite pictures of the Fords.

Mrs. Claire Ford, may you and your husband Hillary be joyfully reunited and may we all be reunited one day. May your good deeds be remembered before The Lord, may your less shining moments be forgiven, and may He Love, Bless and hold you close, always. Peace be with you and your family.

With much love,
Eva Sham,
Tommy Sham, and

We send our sympathy to the family of Claire Ford who was truly a gentle and loving lady. We had the privilege of living across the street from Mr. and Mrs. Ford for about 13 years.....what precious neighbors they were. May you rest in peace, Mrs. Ford.
Love, John and Stefani Spears
