Obituary

Dr. Christopher J. Chaput passed away June 26, 2019 at the age of 77.  He was born November 6, 1941 in Alexandria, Virginia to the late Wilford and Madeline (Conuel) Chaput.  In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Fred Shaw.

He married his first true love, Elizabeth Gorman Chaput, and they had two sons: Hans Christopher Chaput of Victoria and Christopher Dennis Chaput, MD of San Antonio. He was widowed in 1973.
He is also survived by his wife and soul mate of 26 1/2 years Jacquelin Foreman Chaput;  Jacquelin's son Robert Jason Foreman of Edinburg and 2 grandchildren,  Madeline Brooks Chaput and Jackson Grant Chaput.

Dr. Chaput graduated from Baylor College of Medicine, and after an general internship at Willliam Beaumont Army Medical Center, deployed to Vietnam with the 588th Combat Engineering Battalion as a general medical officer. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service.
He returned to complete his residency in neurosurgery at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center.  He spent several years at Brooke Army Medical Center before moving to Victoria and Starting Crossroad Neurosurgical Associates.  He served the citizens of Victoria and the Coastal Bend Area for the next 40 years with great care, kindness, and humility.  During much of this time he also served in the Army National Guard and was called back up for active duty during Desert Storm. He also found time to serve for 20 years as a reserve Deputy Sheriff for Victoria County, which he claimed was “relaxing” for him, as he enjoyed the people and the work itself so much.
