Dr. George Gilbert Chandler Pyle, Jr., lovingly known to most as "Bert", 93 of Victoria, went to his peaceful rest, Friday, April 12th, 2019. Bert's family and friends will gather for a Memorial Service celebrating his life and his faith at 2:00PM, Tuesday, April 16th at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 3002 Miori Lane in Victoria. Bert will be laid to rest beside the mother of his children at a private ceremony at Memorial Park Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Andy Arnold, Neal Stevenson, Trey Pyle, John Starkey, Bob Martin, Max Faykus, and Fred Lykes.

Bert was born August 7th, 1925 in Meridian, Mississippi to the late George Gilbert Chandler Pyle, Sr. and Frances Lockard Pyle. After graduating high school, he attended one semester of college at Mississippi State before he joined the U. S. Navy. Bert served his country honorably from 1943 to 1945. Upon his return, he continued his education at Millsaps in Jackson, Mississippi, where he earned his Bachelor's degree. Bert earned his Master's Degree in Bacteriology from the University of Texas in Austin. While studying in Austin he met and fell in love with, Joan Briggs and upon his graduation they were married, December 27, 1951. Together, Bert and Joan moved to Oakland, California, where Bert worked for the Heinz Company as a Bacteriologist. Bert desired to continue his education and wanted to become a Dentist but later decided that was not the occupation for him. He applied and was accepted to the Baylor Medical School in Houston. It was during medical school that his first two children, Lynell and Kevin were born. Upon completion of his residency in Ophthalmology and the birth of his third child, Daren, Bert moved his family to Victoria to open his practice. Dr. Bert served countless patients over his 39 year career. Bert loved to travel and was an avid golfer and sports fan, instilling the love of golf and football, especially the Texas Longhorns, in his children. After the death of Joan in 1999, Bert remained single for several years until he met and again fell in love with, Sandra Christian. Bert and Sandra were married November 14th, 2003. Together they have had 15 years of wonderful memories and lots of fun traveling and spending time together. Bert was preceded in death by his parents, the mother of his children, Joan Pyle in 1999 and his daughter, Daren Heiser in 2011.

Bert leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Sandra Pyle; daughter, Lynell Stover and husband, John; son, Kevin Pyle and wife, Susan; sister, Pat Sanders; step-children, Neal Stevenson and wife, Kristi and Morgan Stevenson. Bert is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, that deeply loved their "Pop" and will truly miss him, Leah Polk and husband, David, Andy Arnold and wife, Allyson, and Trey Pyle; step-grandchildren, Cole Stevenson, Luke Stevenson, Jess Stevenson and Braylen Stevenson; great-grandchildren, Nora Polk and Parker Polk; along with numerous other loving family members.

Bert's family would like to offer a special thank you to Ruth DeYoung and Julie Garza for their loving care and support and the numerous others that cared for him in his last few years.

Memorial donations in Bert's memory are requested to be sent to St. Francis Episcopal Church 3002, Miori Lane, Victoria, TX 77901 or the charity of choice.

Dear Kevin and Family,
I remember your father fondly. I first met all three of you when Daren was in diapers and I would baby sit the 3 of you often.
Many fond memories of Dr. Pyle and his ability to stay calm and weather the storms that the 3 of you would kick up from time to time. A great role model for me. You were blessed to have him as your father. May he rest in peace.

My condolences to the Pyle family during this difficult time. In the Bible, Jehovah God gives us hope. Acts 24:15 says, “there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” Revelation 21:4 says, “and he will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more.” Very soon we will see the fulfillment of these promises here on Earth. We hope you find comfort in God’s promises.

When I was about two or three years old (I am turning 61 this year), I had an accident and a scissor was poked into my left eye. I was rushed by ambulance to Victoria (from Yoakum) and was seen by Dr. Pyle. After two surgeries and many months of recovery time and Dr. visits, my eyesight was saved!! God not only blessed me, but I am sure thousands of others with the love and expertise this man showed to all his patients through his work!! My sincere condolences to the family.......What a fine man he was!!
