Eriberta Davis Gutierrez, 90, of Victoria, gracefully left this life on the night of Friday, May 3, 2019, at home, peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones in prayer. She was born in Bartlett on March 16, 1929 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. and Lucia (Daniel) Davis. She married Miguel “Mike” G. Gutierrez in April of 1950 and they resided in San Jose, California, having their adored daughter, Mary. After the two divorced she remained in California for over 20 years and then moved back to Texas, retiring from VISD after 13 years. She was a lover of crafts and sewing, having an effortless talent for making beautiful quilts, baby blankets, crochet pieces, clothing, and often donated some of these hand-made items as gifts to local nursing homes. Cooking was definitely another major passion of hers, with no recipe too challenging, and she greatly enjoyed baking for her family and friends during the holiday seasons, on birthdays, on anniversaries, or just a casual afternoon. She adored Mexican music, especially the romanticism of a mariachi band, and the prospect of a Tom Collins never ceased to make her smile mischievously. For many years the growing of her roses, and other plants in her garden, were a pride of hers. She was a devout Catholic who, above all, had a genuine love and interest in her family, always offering her generous heart and understanding ear. For this, and many other treasured reasons, she will be forever missed by them all.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Mary Y. Vasquez (Antonio J.) of Victoria; grandson, Antonio G. Vasquez Jr. of Victoria; granddaughters, Anita N. Vasquez and Andrea E. Vasquez, both of Victoria; step-granddaughter, Melinda V. Longoria (Leonard) of Baytown; great-granddaughters, Alaina Rose Cano and Aniya Blu Vasquez, both of Victoria; great-grandsons, Alfred V. Villarreal Jr., Jase D. Cano, and Nicolas A. Robinson, all of Victoria; sisters, Petra M. Villarreal of Victoria and Luz L. Lugo of Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas, Mexico; and brothers, Jose Davis of Victoria, Gabriel Medina of China, Nuevo León, Mexico, and Santos (Maria) Lerma and Natividad (Nena) Lerma, both of Pasadena. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Tillie G. Gaeta (Salvador) of San Jose, California, and Mary G. Hall Patrone (William) of Alameda, California; brothers-in-law, George G. Gutierrez and Angel “Joe” G. Gutierrez, both of Hollister, California, and Fred G. Gutierrez of Turlock, California; and her many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and other cherished family and friends throughout Texas, California, and Mexico.

She is preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Pedro Lerma; ex-husband, Miguel Gutierrez; sisters-in-law, Petra G. Hernandez, Theresa G. Ochoa, and Mary G. Garza; and brothers-in-law, Ismael Hernandez Sr. and Rigoberto Villarreal Sr.

A visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. with a Rosary (recited by Sylvia Hernandez, Becky Luna, Grace Valdez, Irene Gonzales, and Cecilia Gutierrez) offered at 12:30 p.m. and a funeral Mass celebrated at 1 p.m., on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Victoria. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Antonio Gutierrez Vasquez Jr., John Davis Sr., Alfred Davis Sr., Arnold Davis Sr., Ike Davis Sr., and Rudy Adames.

Honorary pallbearers: her granddaughters and great-grandchildren.

Special thanks offered to her physician, Dr. Peter Nguyen; Sergio Velez of New Century Hospice; family members, Janie D. Adames, Cecilia V. Gutierrez, and Arnold Davis Sr.; and her Rosary Group: her daughter, Mary, Sylvia Hernandez, Becky Luna, Irene Gonzales, Grace Valdez, and Yolanda Resendez.

The family would also like to extend a heart-felt appreciation to her dedicated caregiver, Paula DeLeon, and her husband Steven DeLeon, for the love and comfort they offered so generously.

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”
- John 14:3
