Obituary

Holley Donald Stephenson, 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday May 25, 2019. Visitation will be held Friday, May 31st from 6:00PM to 8:00PN at Grace Funeral Home, 2401 Houston Hwy. in Victoria. Funeral service will be at 1:00PM at Grace Funeral Home. Holley will be buried at a later date in Seagraves, Texas.

Holley was born November 19, 1932 to John and Elva Stephenson in Terry County, Texas. Holley was a caring, generous, God-fearing man who valued the well-being of his family above all else. Holley lived the American Dream, pulling himself up by the bootstraps. He joined the United States Air Force at the age of 19 and served our country well. He was honorably discharged from service in 1955, a choice he made to be with a girl.

Holley married the love of his life, Dorothy Merle Hicks Stephenson, on December 30, 1955. Holley applied himself to his studies in order to provide a good life for his family. And provide he did. Through a truly impressive level of hard work and dedication Holley turned a 7th grade education into multiple exemplary diplomas, including a Master’s Degree from Sam Houston State Teacher’s College in 1960. He became a science teacher and eventually supervisor in the Victoria ISD where he inspired hundreds of students until he retired in 1987. Everyone who met Holley found him to be a kind, enthusiastic, and generous man. Holley was an active member of Baptist Temple Church for 59 years where he served as deacon.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy Stephenson; two daughters Marcia Dorman and Marita Hartmann; six grandchildren Amanda, Bradley, Kyle, Anna, Sarah, and Emily; and great grandson Odin.

My sympathy to the loved ones of Holley Stephenson. We were colleagues at Victoria High School, and I thought very highly of him. He was always kind, knowledgeable, and professional when he visited the library, and he had my full respect. He will be missed. Marie Frankson
