My grandmother was the perfect example of love 1st Corinthians 13 4-7 "Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on it's own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." and a virtuous woman Proverbs 31 10-3. So grateful for your life grandma and all you taught us. - Belitha Ann and family.

Mother was a wonderful Christian lady. Always thoughtful of others, putting family and friends first, always herself last. A true Christian.

Remembering all of the good times with grandma...heading shrimp with her, George, and my cousins at the seafood house, fishing off of the dock with her, how big and beautiful her garden always was, all of the Thanksgivings we all shared as a family and how special she used to make every Christmas for us kids. She would put Hershey's kisses in the shape of bells and trees on each of our packages. One year she sewed us all puppy dog and kitten stuffed animals. She was such a talented seamstress!!! One time she wanted to make me an outfit so she took me to the fabric store. She told me she'd make me whatever I wanted. We spent hours (that's on me-her just being patient) searching for just the right fabric and pattern. I ended up with a perfect, one of a kind shirt and skirt. Super special!!! She always made me feel that way. She made us all to feel that way. Everything I ever made her was always displayed or used. She never squandered anything. She was practical and resourceful. She was always patient, humble, and kind. She was the best grandma ever!!! Our world will never be the same without you grandma...I miss you so much!!! - Belitha Ann

Irene's grandsons are heartsick over her loss and the circumstances that led to it. We will miss her terribly. Since very little time and thought has been invested in this funeral's planning and organization (or allotted for the service Saturday), it's understandable that mistakes were made in the obituary. Please let me make a few corrections/additions. Grandma Irene was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amy McAlister, and her grandson is Bryan, not Brian. Her great-grandson is Connor, not Conner; Carsen, not Carson, and she is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Kristie McAlister of Jonesboro, IL. These errors are in no way any reflection on Grace Funeral Chapel. We know they just printed the information they were provided. - R.W. McAlister

Bryan McAlister Posted at 08:54am

My name is Bryan McAlister. I grew up in Seadrift Texas. In 1972 I married Annette Sanders. Annette grew up in Seadrift Texas. Annette and I have been married now for 46 years, 47 years in October, 3. Annette and I attended school in Seadrift & Port Lavaca where we graduated. We lived in Seadrift 35 years before relocating to North East Texas. Twenty of the 35 years we were married. My point is this: during the 35 years, probably everyone in Seadrift knew we were married and have been since 1972. And in reference to the corrections my nephew R. W. McAlister made, I must say that the daughter in law is the wife of my big brother Robert Charles McAlister known as Bobby or Bob to some. My brother has passed from this world to a much better home. My brother was always Bobby to me. His life story is much the same as mine. He also was married to his Kristie more than 40 years. He also grew up in Seadrift and was known folks all over the county. More than a few knew his wife’s name is Kristie McAlister. The names of the wife’s of mother’s two sons were not mentioned. There is no excuse for the misinformation which was presented to the funeral home. Irene McAlister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother. She deserves a better celebration than this.

Other names I failed to mention that were omitted from the initial obituary submitted to the Funeral Chapel are grandma Irene's surviving brothers: Y.Z. Helms, Jr.; Donnie (Karen) Helms, and Leon (Vera) Helms. I'm sorry that none of these names were included in the first place.
