James Charles Johnson, lovingly known to most as "Butch", 76, a native of Victoria, went to be with the Lord, Saturday May 4, 2019. Butch's family will gather for visitation on Friday, May 10th, 2019 from 6:30PM to 8:00PM at St. Peter's Baptist Church, 2708 S. Laurent St. in Victoria. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00AM, Saturday, May 11, 2019 at St. Peter's Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin VanHook II officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ron Johnson, Justin Youngblood, Jerry Porter, Jeff Orsak, Jeff Cannady, Lee Ross, Carl Rydoloph, Jr. and Max Garza. Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons at St. Peter's Baptist Church and F.W. Gross Class of 1961.

James was born July 15, 1942 to the late Austin Lee, Sr. and Gladys Mae Payton Johnson. Graduating from F.W. Gross High School in 1961. Butch married his love, Rose Ella Youngblood, May 18, 1968 in Victoria. He worked for Union Carbide as a Chemical Operator and later worked in Distribution. Butch retired after 28 years of service. After retirement, Butch enjoyed working at the Victoria Citizens Center, driving for Meals on Wheels. Butch was known for his excellent cooking and catering. Butch was preceded in death by parents, Austin and Gladys Johnson and his brother, Austin Lee Johnson, Jr.
Butch is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Rose Ella Johnson; son, Reginald Johnson and wife, Carlette; daughter, Tamara Frazier and husband, Avid; and brother, William Johnson and wife, Jancie. Butch will be deeply missed by his grandchildren who lovingly called him, "Pop", Aric Frazier and wife, Jessica, Kore Frazier, Caelen Johnson, Jaelah Johnson, and Kari Frazier; great-grandson, Austin Frazier; sister-in-law, Diania Jones; godchildren, Clarissa Rissa-Johnson, Tajma Daywood-Garza, Kendra Marshall, Ricquelya Marshall, and Thurmond Marshall, Jr.; aunt, Gertrude Poore; along with numerous other loving family members.
