On Friday, May 3, 2019, Julia Evelyn Parkan, loving mother and grandmother went to be with our Lord at the age of 83. She was living in Rockport, Texas. Julia was born January 31, 1936 in Edna, TX to Julian and Hattie (Marthiljohni) Beckman.

Julia, or Evelyn as she was known to many, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a seamstress for many years sewing for private clients. She was known best by her custom made western shirts with fancy stitching (in the same color as the fabric of course) and matching snaps sewn for her husband Larry James Parkan.
She was fondly called Meem by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many of their friends. Her favorite times were when she was with her family or even just talking to them on the phone when someone called to see how she was doing. She was Aunt Evelyn to her nieces and nephews, well except to one niece and nephew who all of their lives knew her as “Bozo”. This was a game she played with them and instead of them getting the name, they gave it to her and it stuck.
We have so many fond memories with our Mom. She was the strongest person I have ever known and I am so proud that God gave her to us to be our Mom. She was sweet and kind, even when faced with the most painful procedures. When someone mentions her, they always tell us how kind and beautiful she was to them. She was a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and that God will never give us more than we can handle.
She is survived by her children: Patricia Gann of Wallis, TX; James “Butch” Browning (Michael) of Houston, TX; and Roxanna Stewart (Ken) of Rockport, Texas. Two stepchildren: Cathy Parkan Pickens (Sam) of Madill, OK and Rusty Parkan, of Big Springs, TX. Nine grandchildren: Melissa Haught (Scott), Michele Gibbs, Josh Goodman, Staci Brinkley, Christopher Layman, Justin Layman, Jordan Browning (Shanna), Jason Goodman, Tessa Layman, CJ Ponton (Marla), and Mason Ponton. Twelve great grandchildren. One great great grandchild. Sister, Leona “Jitter” Valenta of Victoria, TX; Brother, JB Pruitt (Pam) of Yoakum, TX. Three Sister-In-Law’s, Jeanne Beckman of College Station, TX, and Doris Elsik and Renett Holcomb both of Victoria, TX and Many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in by her parents Julian and Hattie Marthiljohni Beckman; her husband Larry James Parkan; her brother Julian Earl “Lefty” Beckman; and her son-in-law Wayne Gann.
