Obituary

Mary Ann Jauer, 91, of Reno, Nevada passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2019 after a brief illness. Mary Ann was born October 21, 1927 in Ganado, Texas to Johnnie and Elsie Westerfield.

After her father’s death in 1929, she spent her early years with her grandparents, Herman and Augusta Kunkel on their farm in Hobson, Texas. She graduated from Harlandale High School in San Antonio in 1945. On June 9, 1946, she married Harvey Jauer of Corpus Christi in St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Karnes City.

Mary Ann was employed by American Petrofina in Corpus Christi as an office manager for 27 years. She retired in 1983 and she and Harvey moved to Goliad where they enjoyed the outdoors and a slower pace of life on their small ranch, the “Sunny J”. She moved to Reno in October 2015 to be near her son, Wayne.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her father Johnnie (Johannes) Westerfield, mother Elsie Laake, step-father Herman Laake, sister Kathleen Wilks, and husband Harvey Jauer.

Mary Ann is survived by her son, Wayne Jauer and his spouse, Michael Dziedzic; along with several cousins, nephews, nieces, and many friends in both Goliad and Reno.

Family and friends will gather for visitation and prayer service will be held Sunday, September 29, 2019 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at the Grace Funeral Home in Goliad, with a prayer service at 5:00PM. I posted the picture with Aunt Mary Ann, Granny "Pee" and Aunt Nona because my earliest memories I have of them was cooking in the kitchen together for Christmas dinner at Grandma Oma's house. They always laughed and made fun out of preparing the meal and hand washing the dishes. Mary Ann was always quick on her feet to teeze and get laughs, eye rolls and playful banter amongst them. She knew well the art of practical jokes and humor (I'm sure much well encouraged by her equally entertaining husband, Sony). Being with them at family gatherings was like a warm welcome of familiar faces, certain not to disappoint on the entertainment level. I will cherish these memories forever.
I was told Aunt Mary Ann was also who gave me my life long nick name, "Daisy". (My real name is Daye). According to my Granny Per, apparently, one day while we were all out in the garden, when I was just a baby trying to learn to walk, I fell on my tush and Aunt Mary Ann reached down to scoop me up. As she scooped me up she playfully said "Oopsie-Daisy"...and from that moment on, I was forever known as "Daisy".
Thank you Aunt Mary Ann for being an amazing (Great) Aunt, and you were really were "Great" to have in our family. Thank you also for giving me my name, and for not telling my parents that one time I rode my bicycle into traffic when I was a kid and you drove by. You were always the "cool" Aunt with the firecracker personality and the warmest smile.
