Nelda was a dear friend of our family for many years. I have fond memories of spending time with Nelda. On occasion I would spend the night at her house. Nelda and Chester would invite us to go to Victoria with them. We always were laughing and having fun. I so enjoyed “helping” Nelda take care of Darla and Buddy when they were babies. Nelda and Chester were such proud parents.

When I was young, we attended Point Comfort Assembly of God. Nelda was the church pianist, taught Sunday School and always had the children sing at the beginning of the worship service. Nelda also had a puppet ministry for many years and she was well-known for having small toys and treats in her purse for little children.

Darla and Buddy, your mother left a legacy of faith in God and love of family. We will miss her smile and the twinkle in her eyes. But we know that she is in Heaven. In Christ Jesus we have the assurance of reuniting with her one day.

May God comfort you with his love and peace and may wonderful memories ease your pain and sorrow.

With my deepest sympathy.

We moved to Port Alto about 20 years ago. Nelda welcomed us with a smile and welcoming neighbor. She always had a smile for us and a big wave when we drove by. Rest in peace sweet lady.

Darla, Buddy, and families,

Sorry to hear about Nelda's passing. We got to know her and Chester when we moved to Port Lavaca in 1971 and started attending Point Comfort Assembly of God. We have many memories of the Boyd families and of Nelda's family. I pray that all of you will be comforted by our Lord and Savior, and be given His strength at this time. May God bless all of you.

In sympathy,

Janice and John Mayfield

My fondest memories of my childhood centered around Grandma Nelda as I called her, because my mother Alma and Aunt Sissy Clara called her Momma even though they were both Chester’s baby sisters. The memories I have most was the anticipation that Grandma was going to make me brownies as she always did. Looking back I’m not sure if my mom actually brought the brownies with us when we went to visit, to ensure the tradition lived on. I can visualize them smiling at each other in the living room when I discovered the box of brownies, Aunt Nelda hopping up and putting the oven on prewarm .
Another fond memory was just getting to see Darla and Buddy, Buddy and Chester seemed to have something exiting always going on to tell about like the go cart they built and Buddy’s shooting sports. We could always count on Darla having Rod Stewart cranked up in her bedroom.
But I think the best memories was that old pier.
Sitting with a Nelda fishing for specs but catching hard heads and stingrays more it seemed. Catching crabs with my Brother is also one the memories that I’ll cherish the most , like Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Fin. I thought at least we became experts at it . I can hear Nelda saying “oh yeah” when we through our catch in the boiling pot.

Thank you Aunt Nelda for my best memories.
We will truly miss you .
