Obituary

Norma Jean McKee, age 89, of Victoria, Texas passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at the Hospice Center in Victoria, Texas.

Norma was born Norma Jean Farthing on October 21, 1929 to Clyde William Farthing and Virgie May Farthing in El Dorado, Kansas. She came from a family of 5 brothers and 4 sisters (James William Farthing, Clive "Tiny" Farthing, Lloyd Irwin Farthing, Murl V. Farthing, Velma N. Farthing, Boyd F. Farthing, Joe D. Farthing, Donna L. Farthing and Virginia "Ginger" Farthing).

After moving to Liberal, Missouri in the early 1940's, she met Howard Melvin McKee. After Howard's return from the service in WWII, they were married October 25, 1946 in Liberal, Missouri. They moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1948 and lived in Wichita, Kansas, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and El Dorado, Kansas working with Western Auto from the late 1950's until the late 1980's. They owned a successful Western Auto store in El Dorado, Kansas for much of that time and truly lived "The American Dream".

Howard and Norma retired in the late 1980's and moved to Texas where they have resided since. They enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, as well as Canada, Mexico and even Great Britain. They also enjoyed gardening, fishing, spending time with their granddaughters, going to the Ocean, and attended Coleto Creek Baptist Church. Howard passed away January 17, 2015.

Over the years, Norma enjoyed spending time with family, friends and playing Bingo. She was a huge Spencer Tracy fan as well as Jerry Lewis, The Golden Girls, Johnny Carson and Marty Robbins. She loved the Holidays, decorating for Christmas, cooking and kept a nice house. She even played first base on women's High School Softball Team back in the 1940s. An original El Dorado Icon and member of "The Greatest Generation," she was full of love and compassion. So many good memories over the years… they broke the mold when they made Norma Jean.

Norma is survived by her son, Doug McKee and wife, Melinda; 2 grandchildren, Emily Browning and husband, D.J., Lauren McKee; and 4 great-grandchildren, Mikayla McKee, Aiden Browning, Braxton Browning and Temperance McKee. Norma made the world a better place and she will truly be missed.

A graveside service will take place Friday, October 4, 2019 at 10:00am at Golden Sunset Cemetery.
