Obituary

Paul Walter “P.W.” Gottschald, 94 of Goliad, passed away Monday, May 11th at his home with family close by. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lorraine; step-daughter, Lucy Fox; one brother, Roy; a granddaughter, Phyllis Askew and his parents.

He is survived by his step-son, Joe Allen Campbell; granddaughter, Jeanne Campbell Brandes; grandson, Allen Campbell, all of Goliad; grandson, Steven Campbell of Hutto; granddaughter, Nancy Fox Hare of Victoria; grandson, Mike Fox of Port Lavaca; 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

He gave meritorious service to the people of Texas as an employee of the State Department of Highway and Public Transportation in Goliad for 39 years. He had been an American Legion Post 193 Goliad member for over 68 years. He served as Post Commander, Post Vice Commander, Adjutant, Financial Officer and many committees thru out the years. He served as both Adjutant and Financial Officer since 2012. PW was always involved in the Post Christmas Party and the Spring BBQ and was the first person you would meet at both annual parties. He was matistical in his book keeping meeting minutes along with keeping the records for each annual event. P.W. assisted in Post 193’s entry in the Goliad County Fair Parade for many years. He served in the United States Navy from 1944 (WW-II) until 1954. While he was there, he received third class radioman license from the USN Personal Separation Center at Camp Wallace, Texas and received an honorable discharge from the Naval Service in 1954.

A private graveside service will be held at Glendale Cemetery. Serving P.W. as pallbearers will be Mark Brandes, Allen Campbell, Garrett Campbell, Steven Campbell, Dustin Campbell and Larry Hare.
