Obituary

Rajolei DeJahl Pickens, lovingly known to most as "Raj", 44, most recently of Victoria, left this world, Thursday, March 21st, 2019. A celebration of life in Raj style was held, Sunday, March 24th at sundown at DeLeon Plaza. Folks gathered to show their love for Raj and his musical talent.

Raj was born, January 30th, 1975 in Houston, TX to Herman Lee and Judy Ann Hill Pickens. He graduated from Cypress Creek High School and went on to attend The University of Texas in Austin, studying engineering and english. Raj had a passion for music and playing guitar. Raj met the love of his life over 20 years ago, Kimberly Jean Raley, they were married October 21, 2006. In 2008, Raj had a digital release of his second album "transcendence", which was recorded in Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio His first album, "passionflowers" he did a self release in his younger years. He was currently working on a third album but it was not finished. Raj was an inspiration to many local musicians and played in Houston and local venues often, Liberty Coffee Haus being one of his favorites. He also volunteered at several local food banks and other local charities. Raj's influence in the music industry will long be seen in the young hearts and souls of the musicians that will carry his style and flair with them. Raj lived his life to the fullest and lived through his music. Raj is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and his maternal grandmother.

Raj leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of over 20 years, Kim Pickens; his 5 loving boys, William, Diego, EliJah, Judah, and Arun; his parents, Herman and Judy Pickens; maternal grandfather, Harrison Hill; his sister, Sonya Clark and husband, Mike; brother, Jahrel Pickens; along with numerous other loving family members and adoring musicians and fans.

Raj loved Cobra BB and wstching his boys play. Mark loved hanging out with him at those games. They were so funny together while Kim and I would roll our eyes. We will miss him. We love you guys. We are holding you close in our hearts and prayers. Hugs, Mark, Lisa, Sara, & Ryan Alpeter
