I was 10 years old when Selina (Sally) came into my life by marrying my brother Ysidro (Childo). Sally would make the most delicious lemon meringue pies and I fell in love with her and her pies. She taught me how to make the lemon meringue pies from scratch because that's what made them so delicious. The pies were not that easy to make and they took time. But I took off baking the pies on my own and I can still remember the way they looked and tasted with fresh lemons. And every lemon pie I've ever eaten after that I measure against Sally's--and only one bakery-bought pie has ever come close. Sally was a very loving person and treated me and everyone with great grace. I know she's in heaven with our Lord now and someday I will see her and remind her how she impacted my life from that young age. Though she and the family moved away to other cities and states due to work after a few years before I was completely grown up, I'm so glad we had that time together.
