Ursula Powell Diebel died peacefully in Victoria, Texas on June 12th at the age of 92, surrounded by family. She was born on January 10, 1927 in Fayetteville, Arkansas to Laurence and Eleanor Powell; British Immigrants. The daughter of highly educated and musically talented parents during the depression, she had a colorful youth.

After completing school, she moved with her family from Michigan to Victoria, Texas where she worked as a bookkeeper at Lacks Furniture Store. She married Reuben Andrew Diebel in 1950 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Over four years the couple welcomed five children into their home and raised them all in Victoria, Texas. She later worked for and retired with VISD working with special needs students. She was a woman of strong Catholic faith which is attributed to her long and full life.
Mrs. Diebel is survived by her five children, Cindy Mikulenka (James) of Bastrop, Larry Diebel (Candi) of Austin, Suzanne Musick of Gonzales, Brenda Padgett (Ron) of Victoria and Linda Muska (Glen) of Victoria; her grandchildren lovingly named her Goggy, Neil Mikulenka of California, Erin Mikulenka of New York, Ryan Mikulenka (Leah) of Austin, Lauren Diebel of Santa Fe, NM, Kevin Suchyta Ceballos (Jose) of Austin, Tara Sinclair (Aaron) of Austin, Gregory Suchyta of Austin, Nickolas Padgett (Kayla) of Victoria and Alex Padgett of Victoria. Additionally, Mrs. Diebel is survived by five great-grandchildren; her sister, Margaret Maretti (Michael), as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben Andrew Diebel “The Fox” and sister, Winifred Cooke.
Visitation will be held Sunday, June 16 from 6:00-8:00 PM with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM at Grace Funeral Home, 2401 Houston Hwy in Victoria. A Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM, Monday, June 17 at Our Lady of Victory in Victoria with burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery. A reception to follow at Our Lady of Victory Hall.
